In CLOTSAFE (Microclots and Neutrophil Activation as Potential Indicators for Stroke Risk and Reperfusion Failure) we explore neutrophil morphology as novel biomarkers of stroke risk and stroke treatment success. In this prospective, monocenter study at the University Hospital Zurich (USZ), we use a label free technique to study isolated neutrophils. In addition, we collect clots extracted during stroke treatment (thrombectomy) and blood biomarkers of inflammasome activation and cell damage to identifiy individuals at risk of stroke. The study is ongoing.
