Quality of Life (CODE: QoL)
Stroke happens suddenly, and unlike a chronic illness it gives relatives no time to adjust before they take on caregiving roles. In CODE: QoL (NCT06443268), a prospective observational study, we follow stroke patient-caregiver dyads over 12 months, measuring quality of life and perceived stress with validated questionnaires alongside stress biomarkers in blood and hair, where hair cortisol reflects hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) -axis activity over the preceding months. We include a stroke-free comparison group and ask how impairment severity and other clinical factors relate to stress and well-being in both patients and their relatives. No study in Switzerland has yet examined these questions systematically, and the findings will inform a planned multimodal intervention to support patients and caregivers
